The Housing Market May See A Reversal As Overseas Migration Continues To Rise

Sydney's housing shortage will worsen as a result of the growing number of overseas migrants, driving up local land costs.

According to the latest data from the Australian bureau of statistics (ABS), the new state added about 123,105 people as of September last year, including 98,782 overseas migrants, The Daily Telegraph reported. It was the highest annual number of foreign arrivals in history, making the actual number of new arrivals far higher than the government had predicted. "According to the latest report from the Urban Development Institute of Australia, the number of new housing units in Sydney has increased by 38,700. But it did not meet the demand of 41,250 housing units"

In the UDIA report, Billbergia group development director Rick Graff said such construction levels will not be sustainable as developers plan to build fewer homes in the coming years. It is real estate east Perth.

Graff said: "New housing deliveries in 2017 reached record levels because of planning decisions in 2013, 2014 and 2015. A sharp slowdown in approvals for major projects in 2016 and 2017 will make it impossible to achieve the current construction in the coming years."
